Central Shenandoah EMS Council presents annual regional EMS awards
(Staunton, Va.)- Nine individuals and two regional emergency medical
services agencies received awards from the Central Shenandoah Regional
EMS Council (CSEMSC) at an awards ceremony held July 23, 2008 at the
Grand Caverns Park.
"The award winners and all nominees are outstanding representatives of
our regional EMS system," said CSEMSC President, Gary Critzer. "These
award winners are being submitted to the State EMS Advisory Board to
compete at the state level in the Governor's EMS Awards. The winners
will be announced on Saturday, November 15, 2008 in Norfolk at the 29th
Annual Virginia EMS Symposium."
The CSEMSC award winners include:
* Award for Excellence in EMS - Sharon Tutt, Stuarts Draft
Rescue Squad, County of Augusta
* Outstanding EMS Prehospital Provider - Brandon Peavy,
Harrisonburg Rescue Squad, City of Harrisonburg.
* Outstanding EMS Physician - John Sheridan, D.O., Carilion
Stonewall Jackson Hospital, City of Lexington.
* Outstanding EMS Pre-Hospital Educator - Shaun Carpenter,
Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad, City of Staunton
* Outstanding Contribution to EMS by a Nurse - Robin Root,
County of Augusta
* Outstanding EMS Administrator - David E. Cullen, Jr., Central
Shenandoah EMS Council, City of Staunton.
* Outstanding EMS Agency - Rockingham County Fire and Rescue
Department, Rockingham County.
* Outstanding Contribution to EMS - White's Truck Stop, County
of Rockbridge.
* Outstanding Contribution to EMS for Children - Family Resource
and Referral Center, City of Staunton.
* Outstanding EMS Telecommunications Officer/Dispatcher - James
Junkins, Director, Harrisonburg - Rockingham Emergency Communications
Center.
* CSEMS Kevin Sperka Award (Junior Member Award) - Kyle
Stachowski, Waynesboro First Aid Crew, City of Waynesboro
* CSEMS Senior Squad Member Award- Erin Smoak, Harrisonburg
Rescue Squad, City of Harrisonburg.
Each winner received a distinctive award and pin from CSEMS Board
President Gary Critzer, Tim Perkins of the Virginia Office of EMS, and
EMS Program Representative Andy Daniels signifying their contribution to
the Central Shenandoah EMS region and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mr.
Critzer commended each winner while explaining the qualities and
criteria for each award to the audience. He also announced that the 2009
award ceremony will be held next July.
The Central Shenandoah EMS Council serves the counties of Augusta, Bath,
Highland, Rockbridge, Rockingham, and the cities of Buena Vista,
Harrisonburg, Lexington, Staunton and Waynesboro. The regional EMS
council is an integral part of Virginia's comprehensive EMS system. It
serves to assess, identify, coordinate, plan and implement an efficient
and effective regional EMS delivery system in partnership with the
Virginia Office of Emergency Medical Services and the Governor's EMS
Advisory Board.
