 Pre-Hospital 12-Lead ECG Acquisition
As a part of the most recent local protocol revision, the CSEMS Medical
Control Review Committee (MCRC) approved the acquisition of 12-lead
electrocardiograms (ECGs) by pre-hospital providers. This move substantially
improves the quality of care that patients in the pre-hospital setting can
receive by representing an opportunity for earlier in-hospital intervention
in cardiac-related emergencies. The recognition of ECG abnormalities in the
field also supports in-hospital treatment by allowing clinicians the chance
to evaluate changes in cardiac electrophysiology over time so that more
focused treatments many be initiated in a timely manner. Through
participation in this session, providers will learn about the following
topics:

*	Major anatomical features of the heart, with focus on the pathways
of electrical conduction

*	Parts of a normal ECG tracing

*	CSEMS Protocol 5.1

*	Proper application of the 12-lead ECG electrodes to the patient

*	Proper reporting of the ECG results to the Emergency Room
