New CE Program Slated for '07	


  <http://www.csems.vaems.org/images/ce2.gif> Starting in 2007, the CSEMS
Council will modify the structure of the continuing education program. A
report  <http://www.csems.vaems.org/mailings/20061025_ce_plan_bod.pdf> on
the program was presented to the Board of Directors in October 2006. The
report summarizes the history of the Council's CE program, highlighting the
low attendance records. In an attempt to boost attendance at these CE
programs, the Council will implement the new structure highlighted in the
report. 


The schedules for both ALS and BLS continuing education are listed below and
can be found on the CE classes  <http://www.csems.vaems.org/ceclasses> page.
The CE sessions will rotate between the Augusta, Rockbridge and Rockingham
regions. During the course of one year, all 48 hours of ALS and 24 hours of
BLS category 1 CE will be offered. Previously, these hours of category 1 CE
were offered over two years. The Bath and Highland regions will continue to
receive monthly ALS CE as in the past in accordance with the schedule on the
training calendar.


Once the scheduling of lecturers is completed, additional information will
be distributed for each monthly session and registration will be opened.

EZ-IO Grant Results to be Announced after January 1	
	

 <http://www.vidacare.com/> The 2006 protocols introduced the EZ-IO to the
region. The regional operational medical directors are requiring this device
for all agencies that provide ALS service at the Cardiac Tech, Intermediate
and Paramedic levels.


The Council applied for a Rescue Squad Assistance Fund grant in September,
on behalf of all regional EMS agencies, requesting 100% hardship funding.
The grant awards will be announced after January 1, 2007. Once the grants
are announced, the Council will proceed with implementation of the device.

Next Skills Drill in February	
	

Skills drills will continue to be conducted in February, June and October.
In 2006, the new protocols were introduced to the region and the skills
drills focused on rolling out the new protocols through in-services and
practice sessions in June and October. In February 2007, the skills drills
will resume the standard structure with written and practical testing.

Training Calendar Released	
	

The CSEMS Council training calendar for January through June 2007 has been
released. The training calendar can be found on the Calendar page. Remember
that registration is required for all classes, including skills drills is
required, unless otherwise indicated. The registration process helps us
better serve you by being prepared for the number of providers attending
training sessions.
