2006 Protocol Updates

  <http://www.csems.vaems.org/images/protocols_2006.jpg> During the month of
June, the Central Shenandoah EMS Council has been conducting training on the
2006 protocols. As we conducted the training, some omissions, discrepancies
and errors were noted in the protocol documents. As a result, the printer
was asked to stop the printing process so the field guide could be
corrected. On June 27, the printer resumed printing of the field guide.

Provided for you here is a list of pages that have been modified in the 2006
protocols and the field guide since the June 6, 2006. If you previously
printed, or were provided a copy of the protocols, please print and replace
the pages that have been modified in your copy of the protocols. More...

Vidacare EZ-IOR

As we discussed in the protocol training this month, the 2006 protocols

directors will require this device for all agencies that provide ALS service
at the Cardiac Tech, Intermediate and Paramedic levels. Please see the
letter from the regional medical director, Asher Brand, M.D., regarding the
EZ-IO. More... <http://www.csems.vaems.org/protocols>

the 2006 protocols that were not contained in previous versions of the
protocols. These agency-optional devices include: 12-Lead ECG, continuous
positive airway pressure (CPAP), capnography and esophageal detector
devices. More... <http://www.csems.vaems.org/protocols>

Drug Box Changes

As discussed in the protocol training this month, amiodarone will be
included in the 2006 protocols. Amiodarone will replace lidocaine. Starting
July 1, 2006, regional pharmacies will begin stocking three 150 mg vials of
amiodarone in the CT boxes and will remove lidocaine. More...
