Drug Box Changes
As discussed in
the protocol training this in June 2006, amiodarone will be
included in the 2006 protocols. Amiodarone will
replace lidocaine. Starting July 1, 2006, regional
pharmacies will begin stocking three 150 mg vials of
amiodarone in the CT boxes and will remove
lidocaine. In addition to those changes, the
following CT box changes will occur:
- Add one 100 mL
D5W bag to bottom of box for amiodarone drips.
- Increase the
number of 1 cc syringes (with needles) to four.
- Calcium chloride
will be moved to a slot vacated by lidocaine.
The pharmacies will
be updating the CT boxes as they cycle through the
pharmacies. Therefore, we will experience a
several-month period where boxes may be stocked with
amiodarone or lidocaine. Providers will need to be
prepared to administer either drug, based on the
stock of the drug box. |
