 Special Deliveries: Neonatal Resuscitation

8:00 AM - 9:45 AM

ALS CAT 1 (Area 91--2.0 CEUs)  BLS CAT 1 (Area 08--2.0 CEUs)

This class will provide a comprehensive review of neonatology for the pre-hospital provider. Subjects to be covered include: what goes wrong and why with the neonate, important assessment and treatment tips ad tricks, and how to manage neonate when they are sick.

 How Long Was He Under?: Drowning Emergencies

Target Audience: ALS, BLS

Cases have been documented where victims have been submerged in water for more than an hour and survived neurologically intact.  What should your approach be to drowning victims?  Cold water? Fresh water? Salt water? Pond water?  What really matters?  Join Dr. Brand as he discusses the nuances of treating drowning victims, with special attention to airway management techniques.

 When Hearts Attack!

This class will explore many types of cardiovascular compromise including pathologies causing chronic cardiac problems. Typical acute cardiac emergencies will also be discussed. Emphasis is on non-traumatic emergencies.

 Gaining Traction on Practical Skills

Target Audience: BLS

Has it been a while since you put on a traction splint?  How about a vest-style immobilization device?  Have you splinted a bent elbow lately?  Some of the practical skills we learn as EMTs are used less frequently than others.  Roll up your sleeves and get ready to work as we review these essential BLS skills..

Old man winter is peeking around the corner at us.  Are you ready to treat cold related injuries and hypothermia which are more prevalent during the coming months?  Join us for a look at the pathophysiology, assessment and treatment of cold related problems.  And, for those of you who are more beach bum than snow bunny, we will look towards warmer weather and heat related problems.
