The prospect of treating a sick child can make even
an experienced EMS provider nervous. This lecture
will walk through the assessment and treatment of a
pediatric patient suffering from shock or a
respiratory emergency. The causes of these ailments
and the differences between pediatric and adult
pathophysiologies will be discussed, but the focus
of the lecture will remain on practical advice for
management of a critical pediatric patient for
providers who do not work with pediatric patients on
a regular basis.

What Do We Do
After We Get a Pulse? |
|
1:30 PM - 3:30 PM
ALS CAT 1 (Area 72—1.0 CEU, Area
74—1.0 CEU)
Target Audience: ALS
In 2005, the American Heart Association issued
sweeping changes to the management of cardiac arrest
patients. While we all should be comfortable with
these new guidelines by now, a little review never
hurts. The bigger question is what do we do after we
get a pulse back. We will discuss
post-resuscitation care using the latest ACLS
guidelines.

Patients need an appropriate and accurate
assessment. Assessed is how you determine which
protocol to follow. Assessment is one of the initial
steps of EMS care and should be continuously
performed and adapted throughout all phases of an
EMS call. Lets adapt the skills and techniques
taught in the books to actual clinical practice.
