Seven
individuals, one regional emergency
medical services agency and the
Rockbridge County Administration
received awards from the Central
Shenandoah Regional EMS Council (CSEMSC)
at an awards ceremony held July 28, 2010
at the Grand Caverns Park in Augusta
County. “These award winners’
nominations have been submitted to the
Virginia EMS Advisory Board to compete
at the state level in the Governor’s EMS
Awards. The winners will be announced on
November 13 in Norfolk at the Annual
Virginia EMS Symposium.,” said CSEMSC
President, Gary Critzer. Each
winner received a distinctive award and
pin from CSEMS Board President Gary
Critzer signifying their contribution to
the Central Shenandoah EMS region and
the Commonwealth of Virginia. Mr.
Critzer commended each winner while
explaining the qualities and criteria
for each award to the audience. He also
announced that the 2011 award ceremony
will be held next July. |

2010 EMS Awards Program
State EMS Advisory Board and regional Councils
will recognize EMS providers, agencies and
organizations |

Virginia’s
eleven regional EMS Councils will conduct
regional EMS Awards programs, hold recognition
ceremonies and publicize the regional winners in
their communities. This statewide regional
recognition will honor the exceptional
contributions that members of Virginia’s EMS
system make in their communities and help them
to be more visible to the people they serve.
Regional first place winners will announced on
July 28, 2010 at an awards ceremony sponsored by
the CSEMS Council. The regional winners will be
sent by the Regional EMS Councils to the State
EMS Advisory Board to compete at the state level
in the Governor’s EMS Awards. Recipients of the
2010 Governor’s EMS Awards will be announced and
presented a certificate signed by the Governor
and an awards trophy at the Virginia EMS Awards
Banquet on Saturday, November 13, 2010 during
the 2010 Virginia EMS Symposium at the Norfolk
Waterside Marriott, held November 10 - 14, 2010.
The nomination deadline is June 1, 2010. |

The
Staunton-Augusta Rescue Squad was presented with
the 2009 Governor’s Emergency Medical Services
Award for Outstanding EMS Agency on November 14,
2009 at the Virginia EMS Symposium in Norfolk,
VA.
The Staunton-Augusta
Rescue Squad (SARS) is an agency that provides
outstanding professionalism and quality of
service through innovative training, community
awareness, preventative health programs, public
relations and active participation in the EMS
system. SARS stresses the importance of
education by regularly hosting training sessions
and by having eight EMT-Basic instructors teach
classes regionally.

Safe Kids coalition receives
award
Recognized for
Outstanding Contribution to EMS for Children |

The
Safe Kids
Central Shenandoah Valley Coalition
was presented with the 2009 Governor’s Emergency
Medical Services Award for Outstanding Contribution
to EMS for Children on November 14, 2009 at the
Virginia EMS Symposium in Norfolk, VA.
Safe Kids Central
Shenandoah Valley Coalition helped to pass
legislation (which went into effect July 1, 2009)
prohibiting the sale of novelty lighters to
juveniles under the age of 18. Additionally, Safe
Kids Central Shenandoah partnered with Harrisonburg
Fire Department, WHSV-TV3 and Rockingham Memorial
Hospital to form the Child Safety Alliance to help
parents with child safety seat inspections.
